YOU NEED TO USE 'Playlunky version > nightly' IN MODLUNKY OR YOU WILL CRASH WHILE PLAYING, GUARANTEED
Fair, balanced, beginner friendly... These are not words I would use to describe The Randomizer. Fun though? Abso-hecking-lutely. There are a lot of options to tinker if you think it's too hard. Your options are saved between sessions too.
Second incarnation of The Randomizer with new API shenannigans. Most familiar things from 1.2 are still there, but better! Progression is changed though, shops are random, level gen is crazy, chain item stuff, multiple endings, secrets... I can't possibly test all of this so fingers crossed it doesn't crash a lot.
Randomizes: Container contents, enemies, traps, projectiles, lever order, level size, level layout, boss order, boss attacks, boss levels, shop locations, shop contents, shop prices, quest prizes, challenge prizes, chain items, floor style, liquids, treasure, poop...
Changelog:
- 2.9zz: Fix one portal related crash/exploit
- 2.9z: Added option to get some of the old chaos back in all boss variations, fixed some bugs (This will be the last update, unless some horrible game breaking bugs emerge.)
- 2.9: Random bosses, made reaching the top easier, tweaked balance, fixed some crashes, fixed some more bugs
- 2.8: Just bugfixes (watery crash, saving options, hud level numbering)
- 2.7: Fixed some bugs, remixed some level gen, added water levels, moved level number to real hud
- 2.6c: Added crust items/enemies, fixed some trap placement
- 2.6a: Fixed dark CO jelly, added some drops. No time to test, please don't crash
- 2.6: Removed some stuff I've recently added, but I don't really know if it's still crashing or not
- 2.5: Nuked to investigate crashes
- 2.4a: Fixed some shop item names, fixed kegs blocking paths
- 2.4: New level sizes, random prizes, challenge enemies, fixed that stupid parachute crate, fixed crashes, fixed bugs
- 2.3e: Random drill rooms
- 2.3d: Random friends and evil twins, fixed unfair crap falling on you during cutscenes, fixed olmec phases?
- 2.3c: Fix Duat ankh and stuff with yetis and butterflies (I'll tell you when you're older)
- 2.3b: Little bugfixes.
- 2.3a: Added random Olmec phases. Added individual options for hard bosses.
- 2.3: Added options to change theme chances or disable certain themes. Bugfixes on storage floors, challenges and dice shops.
- 2.2c: Fix challenge forcefields getting replaced.
- 2.2b: Fix tide pool 4-2 pousse-café.
- 2.2a: Added chance to swap spike pits with minefields or other stuff.
- 2.2: Added chance to swap liquids in a level. Let me know if you get the liquids pool error!
- 2.1c: Temporary stupid fix for shop item names.
- 2.1b: Fixed some non-fatal errors, added some forgotten secrets.
- 2.1a: Fix crash with webgun maybe.
- 2.1: Added more random projectiles, added options to disable everything.
- 2.0f: Trying to fix bugs I've never gotten.
- 2.0e: Added options saving, fixed a crash if played with level gen mods.
- 2.0d: Fixed shop floors, adjusted some chances for the more enjoyable.
- 2.0c: Fixed a bunch of bugs with floorstyles.
- 2.0b: Floor styles, duat got hard.
- 2.0a: Tiny bugfixes, switched to game prng for seeded randomness.
- 2.0: It got darker, fixed some pools. I hope it's also ready.
- 2.0-RC3: Optimization to speed up level loading, some more random stuff.
- 2.0-RC2: Added waddler caches to back layer, fixed some unfair entrances.
- 2.0-RC1: (Some) projectiles, quest stuff, secret stuff, bugfixes.
- 1.9999999: More bugfixes.
- 1.999999: This seems to be getting pretty close to 2.0... Progression items and stuff, bugfixes.
- 1.99999: Uh bugfixes, balance, added some trap types and progression stuff? I don't remember.
- 1.9999: Tuned the crazyness down a bit. Turned some other stuff up to 11. Rewrote the door stuff with new progression, multiple endings, chain stuff, secrets?
- 1.999: Rewrite with new features using new api stuff. Tossed Tiamat cause those doors just don't work.
- 1.2: Fixed boss doors (does anyone even play this when it takes two weeks to get a bug report for this?)
- 1.1: Lowered the difficulty in Abzu (apparently blowing up the whole level is too hard, smh)

It's become quite crashy on the steam deck, specifically on two boss levels, hundun's hideaway and duat. Hundun's hideaway is the worst, crashing about 50% of the time. If the framerate drops to a certain low level it seems to bomb out.
any ideas what'd work as a workaround? I do like the new mixed up bosses so if I can keep that, that'd be wonderful.
@Jacob. a 100% chance never means "100% every level" for any feature, cause there are a ton of other elements that would make the level unenjoyable or just impossible. There are a lot of conditions for starting the flood too.
@limebell636 that error seems unlikely if you're running the latest playlunky nightly build like instructed, but might be a weird fluke in the api that is not really a rando bug.

the rushing liquids rule doesnt seem to work. i set it to 100 and the liquids don't spawn at the spawnpoint (unless that toggle is supposed to be for something else?)
@Dregu im so sorry dude i've been playing for so long forgot there was even that options bar. I might mess with more stuff too. Thanks. And the random bosses are growing on me a bit. Good day
@NinjaNoafa have you tried reading the options, cause one of them is "Random bosses"
I've loved this mod forever, in fact it's the only way I will play spelunky 2. But I don't like the random bosses. I enjoyed the classic bosses with their randomized arenas. For example I no longer can enjoy hundun or olmec fight like I used to. And there are loads of bugs. One I found was with yama in hundun hideaway where i was going through a pipe and ended up on yama's shoulder but like behind the level and died. So... Maybe you can make two different mods, one with random bosses and one without? I would really appreciate that, as I was doing so well in improving in the "normal" randomizer. Thanks, good day.
@duivelsgebroed it doesn't remove vanilla dark levels, only adds more in unexpected places
i love it :) one thing that seems broken is the dark level modifier. i always turn it to 0 because i dont want any dark levels, but they always pop up eventually anyway.
Found a glitch today. During the opening cutscene, the randomizer added in water physics, and Ana swam up onto the platform above the entrance, fell offscreen, and the game crashed.
is it still working :(

I'm curious to know what other stats are in play, like maybe warp doors too much is bad xD
Yes skipping bosses always takes you to 7-5, killing all bosses gets you somewhere between 7-5 and 7-98 based on other stats.

It's (was) a joke and can be disabled in the options. (Xbox features)
why my characters sprites are randomized too? is it normal?
You came to the right conclusion, and since the game was just updated yesterday, don't hold your breath to play any mods for at least a week while the tools are adjusted.
FYI I'm getting an error as of randomizer-2.6b. My Spelunky version is 1.25.2, supported version is 1.25.0b. Not able to ignore to play. Looking forward to trying it out!
Edit: Misread the error. The error is coming from Playlunky, not randomizer mod
So, when is multiplayer coming out?
